FAQs
WHO ARE ANGLO INDIAN?
ANGLO INDIAN was founded in 2005 in preparation for Foreign Direct Investment into the Indian real estate sector.
The company concentrates on large scale land acquisition and development partnerships in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities in India.
Where ANGLO INDIAN is different is the collaborative nature of its developments, incorporating highly prestigious educational, sporting and lifestyle brands, like MCC/Lord’s.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH MCC?
ANGLO INDIAN has entered into a brand licence agreement with Marylebone Cricket Club Overseas Ltd (MCCO). Under this agreement, we can use MCC and Lord’s branding in our cricket-themed developments in India – ‘communities built around cricket’.
To complement our activities in India, ANGLO INDIAN is also proud to sponsor the MCC Cricket Academy and Nursery Ground at Lord’s.
WHAT IS MCC OVERSEAS LTD?
MCCO is a subsidiary of MCC and as such ultimately owned by the Members of MCC. The MCC Committee approved that a company be set up to handle the Club’s intellectual property rights overseas and enter into the brand licence with ANGLO INDIAN.
WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU MEAN BY ‘COMMUNITIES BUILT AROUND CRICKET?
Picture a community literarily built around a cricket ground. Our vision is a cricket enthusiast’s idea of paradise.
Like a classic English village, the cricket ground will provide the focal point to our communities in India– surrounded by a range of housing. Each community will also include a pavilion providing an iconic reminder of all things MCC and Lord’s, a fully-operational MCC Cricket Academy, a private members’ club and a Lord’s Tavern-themed restaurant, plus a variety of complementary shops and associated amenities.

WHY CRICKET?
Cricket is India’s greatest passion. It’s a sport with a devotional following and the power to unite people.
Cricket is also a tremendous educational tool for youngsters, allowing them to learn key life skills such as teamwork, leadership and decision-making. It promotes mental and physical fitness and a winning attitude. The MCC’s Spirit of Cricket initiative promotes cricketers to “Play Hard, Play Fair” and this is an ethos that ANGLO INDIAN will ensure is encapsulated into the MCC Academies in India.
And MCC & Lord’s are two of the most iconic brands associated with the sport – Lord’s, of course, being known as the ‘home of cricket’, and a by-word for history, tradition and excellence.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN COMPONENTS OF THESE ‘COMMUNITIES BUILT AROUND CRICKET’?
MCC Cricket Academy
MCC Cricket Academies will be at the heart of each of our communities and will be available for use 365 days a year. They will be first class facilities that allow individuals from all backgrounds – plus schools, colleges and companies – to use the cricket nets, receive professional coaching and organise cricket matches on the main ground.
Most importantly for India, given the annual monsoon, it will provide excellent indoor facilities in a temperature controlled environment for year-round use.
In addition to the cricket nets, the Academy will benefit from an ICC quality cricket ground and the latest equipment such as HawkEye technology. The Academies will also provide health and fitness rooms for exercise and training, changing rooms and relaxation facilities such as steam rooms and sauna.
The MCC Academies will also welcome national and international teams and touring Test teams as they prepare for tournaments or Test series in India. Five star on-site accommodation and dining facilities will ensure that teams consider the MCC Academies as ‘must stay’ venues for their tour of India.
‘By Invitation Only’ Private Members’ Club
Certain timeless qualities define the essence of a classic private members club, and our new country clubs will have them all – from a choice of excellent dining options to extensive health and leisure facilities. There will be stylish club suites to stay in; areas to relax with friends and family; and somewhere to conduct business, with all the privacy and amenities one would expect from the finest hotels.
Like all great clubs, once established, they will become the very heart of their communities, with elegant surroundings discreetly enhanced in classic Lord’s style with cricket memorabilia.
Membership will provide the ideal environment for those seeking a closer association with the leaders in their community from the fields of sport, business, media, entertainment, government, education, culture and the arts.
Lord’s Tavern-themed Restaurant
For years the Tavern at Lord’s has been synonymous with traditional English fare, evoking the scent of Britain and complementing a love of cricket perfectly.
Our Tavern-themed restaurants will allow diners to soak up some of the most distinctive cricket memorabilia in the world, whilst marvelling at the achievements of bygone sportsmen or getting right up to date with the day’s play on large screens – all whilst enjoying a simple cold beer or some fine International or Indian cuisine.
MCC/Lord’s Merchandise Outlet
Lord’s – the home of the Ashes Urn – is synonymous with classic cricket memorabilia, spanning centuries of sports equipment right up to the modern day. The shops will offer all the latest cricket equipment, Lord’s and Father Time clothing and memorabilia, cricket strips, books and DVDs whilst also providing a glance into yesteryear with replicas of old clothing and paraphernalia.
Retail, Restaurants, Hotels and Leisure Facilities
Each community will vary depending upon its specific location, site characteristics, and immediate resident population. That said, each community will be master-planned to include retail, restaurants, hotel and leisure facilities to suit different price points. In keeping with the brand theme for our communities, we will be targeting established Indian and international brands to locate within our communities.
Real Estate
The range of real estate within ANGLO INDIAN’s branded developments will be comprehensive – from a first home to a family town house to a sumptuous villa with a swimming pool.
Naturally, prime locations overlook the cricket ground, in the time-honoured style of the classic English village. Radiating outward from the centre, a variety of house styles and sizes are designed to suit different life stages complete a thoroughly well-balanced community.
HOW BIG WILL THESE CRICKET-THEMED DEVELOPMENTS BE?
Our communities will be master planned to accommodate a broad range of sites – from 30 to 300 acres. Developments will be flexible to adapt to a diverse topography between sites, from rural settings with hill slopes and undulating valley environments, to flat land suitable for higher density developments. WHAT HAVE ANGLO INDIAN DONE IN THE PAST?
ANGLO INDIAN is a young, entrepreneurial company that was formed in 2005 when Foreign Direct Investment legislation was passed for the Indian real estate sector. The team comprises professionals from the world of master-planning, development, sales & marketing, finance & capital markets and hospitality and leisure. The team’s breadth of sector knowledge has been developed in multiple international markets such as the UK, Continental Europe, North America, south-east Asia and, in particular, the Indian sub-Continent.
Since 2005 ANGLO INDIAN has been developing a land bank of 550 acres through its operating company that was formed by ANGLO INDIAN in 2006. We are currently at the master-planning stage. In addition, we will be concluding further land and joint development agreements during the course of 2011.
SO WILL PUNE BE THE SITE OF THE FIRST CRICKET COMMUNITY?
Not necessarily, ANGLO INDIAN is actively negotiating agreements with developers and landowners in multiple locations across India. At present, we are looking at Gurgaon, Delhi as the most likely first site for the following reasons:
- Gurgaon is the fastest growing and most established satellite city of Delhi, housing more multinational corporations and Indian companies than other cities.
- Gurgaon is well located to the International airport.
- It has a strongly growing residential customer base with visible spending power for the types of products that ANGLO INDIAN will be developing.
WHERE ELSE ARE YOU LOOKING AT?
The ANGLO INDIAN vision encompasses the development of twelve residential communities – click link for map of proposed locations.
WHEN IS THE FIRST DEVELOPMENT LIKELY TO BE FINISHED?
The development schedule will vary according to the scale of individual developments, but will generally take two to three years from commencement to completion, starting with the building of the MCC Cricket Academy, the private members’ club, associated retail, and hospitality facilities, around which the serviced apartments, villas and apartments will be planned. For larger scale projects we would obviously expect a longer delivery timeline of 5 years, but of course this would be phased.
WHO ARE YOUR DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS IN INDIA?
Our development partners will be landowners with attractive land parcels of 30 acres upwards, who have the clear title and appropriate regulatory zoning for development, or sites which can secure such zoning permits.
Additionally, partners could be established property development companies with an existing project or undeveloped land bank with whom we can enter into a Joint Development Agreement.
WHERE IS THE INVESTMENT COMING FROM?
ANGLO INDIAN is funded by Foreign Direct Investment from a combination of high net worth family offices to institutional investors. Increasingly, we will be targeting investment from a combination of international and domestic institutional investors.
ARE ANGLO INDIAN & MCC TRYING TO TEACH INDIANS HOW TO PLAY CRICKET?
Absolutely not. To suggest so would be impertinent, particularly in light of India’s fantastic World Cup win this year. This venture is all about creating first class new facilities and sports infrastructure to inspire and nurture local talent.
Both the BCCI and the ICC have been advised about the brand licence agreement and the developments.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO HOLD THE PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING MCC/LORD’S IN LONDON AND NOT INDIA?
We felt it made sense to announce the brand licence agreement, along with our sponsorship of the MCC Cricket Academy, at Lord’s to coincide with the India Test – preceded by a live web cast aimed at a wider international audience.
Our main press activity will however take place in India as soon as we are in a position to announce the first site.
SO ARE ANGLO INDIAN JUST DEVELOPING CRICKET COMMUNITIES?
No, not just cricket. Our wider vision incorporates Sports, Education and Lifestyle as key elements for future developments and we are in discussions with a number of other prestigious brands who are also very excited about opportunities in India.
